In rooms that get harsh, direct sunlight—especially with big glass windows—very light, shiny floors can behave like mirrors. The light bounces straight into your eyes, and the whole space can feel too sharp or glaring, especially at certain times of day.
Slightly darker or more muted floor tones absorb a bit of that intensity. They still look bright, but they don’t create that squint-inducing reflection everywhere. A soft beige, warm grey or mid-tone wood often works better than super-white glossy tiles in such spaces.
You’re not making the room dark; you’re just calming the light down a little so it’s pleasant to live in.
