If you put all the big, solid furniture—like a bulky sofa, large cabinet, heavy table—on one side of the room, that side feels visually and physically heavy. The other side looks empty and weak. The room feels lopsided.
Balancing means spreading weight—pairing a big sofa with a lighter chair opposite, or matching a tall bookcase with a floor lamp and plant on the other side. You’re not making everything equal, just avoiding one-side dominance.
When weight is balanced, the room feels easier to walk through and more comfortable to be in. Your brain isn’t subconsciously pulled to one overloaded corner.
