Why is it important to check how much natural light a room gets before choosing tile or wall colours?

The same colour behaves differently in different light. A pale grey that looks elegant in a bright room can look gloomy in a dark one. Very shiny tiles might look beautiful in a store but become blinding in direct sunlight at home.

If a room gets limited natural light, darker wall colours or heavy floor tones can make it feel like a cave. In those spaces, lighter shades, soft neutrals and low-sheen finishes usually work better, reflecting what little light there is.

For bright, sun-filled rooms, slightly deeper colours can be used comfortably without making the space feel heavy.

By simply standing in the room at different times of day and noticing how much light it actually gets, you can choose finishes that support the mood you want, instead of fighting the reality of the space.
