In a small living room, heavy dark curtains can swallow light. Even when they’re open, they still sit like big dark blocks on the sides of the window. The whole room can feel a bit cramped and “closed in.”
Light-coloured curtains—off-white, beige, pale grey, soft pastels—allow more brightness to bounce around. When sunlight hits them, they glow softly instead of absorbing it. Even on cloudy days, they don’t drag the mood down.
They also blend with the wall more easily, so your eye focuses on the space itself rather than two big colour blocks. If you choose slightly sheer fabric, you get privacy and daylight together, which is perfect for small spaces.
You can still layer them with a darker blind at the back if you need full darkness for TV or sleep. But for daily use, light curtains keep the room feeling airy and a bit bigger than it really is.
